Hsien-Peng Hsiung

Professor Hsien-Peng Hsiung was born 1915 in Tokyo, Japan. At the age of 3, she moved with her parents to Beijing, China, where she was educated and spent most of her life teaching Fine Arts. She graduated from the Peking Academy of Arts for Women in 1936. From 1936 to 1944, she pursued further study under the direction of several world famous artists from Japan, Russia and France. She began her teaching career at the age of 30 in 1945 as a professor of Fine Art at Peking Academy of Arts for Women and later became the president of the Academy.

She had received numerous prizes and awards. Her works were well received by the public and earned acclaims within the art circle. Professor Hsiung traveled extensively. In addition to her individual exhibits in Beijing, Tienjing, Yokohama and Tokyo, her works were also exhibited throughout the world. She retired in 1985 at the age of 70 and passed away on December 9, 1996.
